Not a Tour Company.
A Human Connection Platform.
We started with one simple belief: the best way to experience Japan is through the eyes of someone who lives there — and genuinely wants to share it with you.
The Problem We Saw
Every year, 30 million people visit Japan. Most of them see the same things: Shibuya Crossing, Senso-ji Temple, Fushimi Inari's torii gates. They take the same photos, eat at the same restaurants, and go home with the same memories.
Meanwhile, there are millions of locals across Japan — in fishing villages, mountain towns, depopulated islands — who have incredible stories, secret spots, and a deep desire to share their home with visitors. But there was no way for travelers to find them.
The existing "tour platforms" treat guides like products: fixed itineraries, group tours, no personality matching. You book a "Tokyo Food Tour" and hope the guide speaks your language and shares your interests. That is not a connection. That is a transaction.
What We Built Instead
MATCHS is built on the Jobs-to-be-Done theory. We asked: what is the real "job" a traveler hires a guide to do?
It is not "show me Tokyo." It is "help me feel like I truly experienced Japan — safely, personally, and meaningfully."
So we built a platform that does four things differently:
- Matching, not just booking. We match you with guides based on personality, interests, and language — not just location.
- Connection before commitment. Chat with your guide before you pay. Make sure you click.
- Deep Japan, not tourist Japan. From Hokkaido to Okinawa, from cities to villages that do not appear on any map.
- A friend, not a vendor. We believe the best travel experiences create lasting human connections — not just transactions.
Personality & interest matching, not just booking by location.
Chat with your guide before you arrive. Build trust and friendship.
From Hokkaido to Okinawa, city to village. The real Japan, not the tourist version.
A friend in Japan, not a transaction. We hope every connection leads to many more visits.
Our Mission
To create meaningful human connections between travelers and locals across Japan — and in doing so, help revitalize rural communities, preserve endangered crafts and traditions, and show the world a Japan that no guidebook can capture.
The 10 Problems No One Else Solves
"I don't know WHO I'm meeting"
Most platforms show you a name and a photo. We show you their story, their personality, their passions — so you know if you will click before you book.
"I want the REAL Japan"
Tourist traps are everywhere. Our guides take you to the places only locals know — the back-alley izakayas, the unmarked shrines, the villages tourists never reach.
"I have niche interests"
Anime pilgrimage? Jazz kissa? Showa nostalgia? Industrial heritage? We have guides who share your obsession.
"I'm nervous before I arrive"
Chat with your guide weeks before your trip. Ask questions, plan routes, and arrive feeling confident.
"I don't want the experience to end"
We are building a platform designed for lasting human connections — not just one-off transactions.
"I don't speak English well"
We have guides who speak Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Korean, Mandarin, and more. Experience Japan in YOUR language.
"Rural Japan is invisible"
From depopulated towns to fishing villages, we connect you with locals in places no other platform covers.
"How do I know this person is safe?"
Safety is our top priority. We are building a verification system that will include ID checks and interviews before any guide can offer tours.
"Last-minute changes are impossible"
Our experiences are flexible. Your guide adapts to weather, energy levels, and spontaneous discoveries.
"I don't understand the cultural context"
Our guides do not just translate — they explain WHY. The history, the etiquette, the meaning behind everything you see.
Our Values
Human First
Technology should connect people, not replace them. Every feature we build serves human connection.
Local Empowerment
Guides keep the majority of what they earn. We invest in rural communities, not extract from them.
Radical Transparency
We believe in honesty. Real identities, real stories, real connections — that is what we are building, from the ground up.
